MASON CITY – A fire that caused damage and ultimately closed a fast food sandwich store in Mason City late last year has lead to the arrest of a Mason City man on felony arson and other charges.
The Subway store located at 421 South Illinois suffered an undetermined amount of damage on December 29, 2014. Smoke coming from the building had been reported to authorities, who arrived and secured the premises. The restaurant has not yet re-opened.
In the wake of that incident, following an extensive investigation, a former employee of the store, 23-year-old Ethan Alan Miller of Mason City, was arrested on February 17, 2015. Investigators say that their findings show that the fire was intentionally set. Evidence, as well as marijuana, has been discovered at Miller’s residence in the days following the incident.
Miller is now in the Cerro Gordo County Jail, charged with felony first degree arson, first degree burglary, second degree theft, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.
Burned up containers, racks, and other debris were visible behind the Subway store following the fire. Charred pavement and other substances were oozing on the ground. A front window was boarded up. A cleaning crew was at the site for a number of weeks.
This guy is so dumb he is back in jail today for possession. I bet he isn’t smiling today.
