New four-lane section of U.S. 20 set to open soon

AMES, Iowa – Nov. 15, 2012 – Iowa is set to receive another economic boost with the opening of a new 26-mile, four-lane segment of U.S. 20 in northwest Iowa. A celebration is planned next week to mark another milestone toward completion of a four-lane highway that will eventually stretch from Dubuque in eastern Iowa to Sioux City in the west.

The newly completed segment begins at the intersection with Iowa 4 near Rockwell City in Calhoun County and continues west to U.S. 71 near Early in Sac County. The road is scheduled to open to traffic Monday, Nov. 19, at noon. The celebratory event will follow on Wednesday.

The U.S. Highway 20 Corridor Association, host of the local celebratory event, has been advocating for the completion of U.S. 20 as a four-lane facility since the 1960s. The opening of the current segment means the remaining two-lane highway gap will be narrowed to just 44 miles.

Glad to see they are getting closer to having it four lane all the way across Iowa. It has taken awhile.
