Former Mason City school board member hired by Belmond schools as principal

Mark Young

BELMOND, IOWA – A former Mason City school board member has been hired as a principal with Belmond-Klemme schools.

At the June 1, 2017 Special Board of Education Meeting for Belmond-Klemme schools, Interim Superintendent Sara Keen recommended the school board approve the hire of Mark Young as Elementary Principal at Jacobson Elementary with the salary of $80,000 with family insurance and matching benefits. The motion carried 7-0.

Back in May of 2013, NIT reported that Mark Young resigned from the Mason City School Board. He was formerly a Mason City attorney with aspirations for a career in education.  “Mr. Young submitted his letter of resignation to the Board as he has completed a Masters Program in School Administration,” School Superintendent Anita Micich said in a district press release.  “His desire is to begin this new journey in his career path.”

He was later hired by the Mason City school district as an assistant to the principal at Roosevelt Elementary School, where he was said to excel with at-risk students and was paid over $55,000 per year.

good luck Mark, Belmond school district is kind of a cess-pool but I know you will do your best at getting it under control.

Wasn’t he on the School Board when Anita Micich was hired? Quid pro quo? Was he qualified for the job when Anita hired him?

Not the most overpaid Young – we have one here in Manly that is rumored to have made 100k last year as bus director .

Lots of money to be made at private citizens expense. Most people in the private sector are so screwed its almost laughable.

Another great local talent chased out of town by the lynch mob!

“Great talent?” At what? He was a lousy and unethical attorney and his job at Mason City Schools still remains suspicious. With all of the qualified educators looking for work they create a job for some bankrupt attorney. Belmont must be really desperate and clearly didn’t do their due diligence.

Young was not as effective as he wants the public to think. Good luck Belmond.. You are going to need it!

He was the least qualified and overly paid employee in the Mason City School District, and he will now have that same status in the Belmond-Klemme School District.
