BELMOND, IOWA – A former Mason City school board member has been hired as a principal with Belmond-Klemme schools.
At the June 1, 2017 Special Board of Education Meeting for Belmond-Klemme schools, Interim Superintendent Sara Keen recommended the school board approve the hire of Mark Young as Elementary Principal at Jacobson Elementary with the salary of $80,000 with family insurance and matching benefits. The motion carried 7-0.
Back in May of 2013, NIT reported that Mark Young resigned from the Mason City School Board. He was formerly a Mason City attorney with aspirations for a career in education. “Mr. Young submitted his letter of resignation to the Board as he has completed a Masters Program in School Administration,” School Superintendent Anita Micich said in a district press release. “His desire is to begin this new journey in his career path.”
He was later hired by the Mason City school district as an assistant to the principal at Roosevelt Elementary School, where he was said to excel with at-risk students and was paid over $55,000 per year.
