Marvin Fredrick Plagge, 90, of Latimer, passed away Friday, March 27, 2026, at MercyOne Hospital in Mason City. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer. Burial will follow at Marion Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church 1 hour before the funeral. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Hampton is caring for Marvin and his family.

Marvin was born on May 17, 1935, to Fred and Sena Plagge. He graduated from Franklin Consolidated High School in 1953. He farmed north of Latimer until his retirement and also enjoyed meeting many people while selling Archer Oil for over 20 years.

On July 28, 1957, Marvin married Mary Campbell, and together they had three children: Julie, Jennifer, and John. In 1980, he married Shirley Pals. Together they enjoyed driving ponies in parades, gardening, and camping and working at the state fair in the summer. In 2004, Marvin married LaVonne Allen. They enjoyed life together at their home in Latimer, traveling on cruises and staying active by attending card club, over 60’s and coffee club.

Marvin was deeply involved in his community and church. At the time of his passing, he was the longest-standing member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with his brother-in-law, Vince McDermott, as well as camping, grilling, and spending time outdoors. More recently, he enjoyed watching Caitlin Clark play basketball.

Marvin is survived by his wife, LaVonne, of Latimer; daughter Jennifer (Tom) Cross of Ottawa, KS; son John (Anne) Plagge of Hampton; stepson Brian Pals of Aurora, CO; stepdaughters Virginia Workman of Albuquerque, NM, and Polly Allen of Columbia, MO; and son-in-law Elias Castillo of Brooklyn Park, MN. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Mary and Shirley; his daughter Julie; his sister Delores; and his brother-in-law, Vince McDermott.

Marvin will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
