August 29, 1947 – March 20, 2026
Duane Lavern Losee, 78, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away March 20, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones.
Duane was born on August 29, 1947 in Mason City, the son of Claude Lavern and Joyce (Christensen) Losee. He graduated from Rockford Marble Rock High School with the class of 1965. He then went on to enlist in the United States Airforce, earning the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1970. Following his time in the service, Duane took several courses through NIACC. He worked in a number of fields over the years including welding, farming, and truck mechanics. Duane was united in marriage to Connie Stark June 5, 1999 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Duane was a lifelong member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #110 in Manly, the Mason City, VFW, as well as American Legion Post 101 in Mason City and the National Rifle Association. Duane was a man of strong will, quick wit, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His stubborn streak was matched only by his sense of humor and his deep, protective nature—he would go to any length to safeguard the peace and well-being of his family. He found great joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially his passions for cars and fishing. Duane took immense pride in working on his 1969 Mach 1 Mustang with his son, Troy; and cherished his 1972 Chevelle, both reflections of his dedication and craftsmanship.
Plenty of warm days were spent alongside Connie on his mother’s land near Marble Rock, where the two would pass the time fishing for catfish along the river. Duane also had an appreciation for firearms, with a particular admiration for his Henry rifles. Through all his interests and pursuits, what remained constant was his love for family and the quiet strength with which he protected them.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Connie; children, Troy (Kellie) Losee and their children, Madison, Mackenzie (Keenan), and Morgan (Max); Michelle (Keith) Arndt and their children, Erika (Gio), and Leah; and Dawn (Joe) Schade and their children, Terran, Jordyn, Jackolby, Harley, Kayla, and Jayden; great-granddaughter, Esperonza; great-grandson, Morgan; step-children, Ray Garza and Ryan (Melissa) Garza; siblings, Jane (Nick) Ong and Gary (Jan) Losee; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Joyce.
