Claire Lloyd Brackey was born on July 25, 1933, son of Alf and Mabel Brackey. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church. He graduated from Lake Mills Community High School. Following school, he served in the United States Army as a sergeant trainer for the Korean war from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955.
On January 8, 1954, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Berg. They were blessed with two children: Carole and Mark.
Claire worked at Queens Stoves in Albert Lea for over 30 years. Claire’s favorite pastime was fishing. He made many trips to Canada with his wife and brother and sister in-law. He also spent a lot of time fishing on Clear Lake. In the winter, you could find him ice fishing at Rice Lake or other lakes in the area. When he couldn’t be out fishing, he enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and Iowa Hawkeye basketball. He also enjoyed watching his granddaughters play softball.
He had a way of making his grandkids and great-grandkids laugh, by just being silly or telling jokes. Telling jokes was something you could expect to hear from him anytime you talked to him. A favorite game with the grandkids when they were young was playing tug of war with a blanket. He had one end and Stephanie and Melissa had the other, he would pull hard so they pulled back, and as soon as they did, he would let go and they would fall down and laugh!
He is survived by his children, Mark (Barb) Brackey and Carole Summers; two granddaughters, Stephanie Brackey and Melissa (Seth) Schulz; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Emersyn, and Owen; a niece, Nancy (Chuck) Maland, and great-nephew, J.T.
Claire was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; parents, Alf and Mabel Brackey; eight brothers, Judien, John, Arlan, Marvin, Adler, Norris, Bernell, and Vernon “Snooky”; a sister in-law, Janet Klein; and a brother in-law, Lloyd Klein.
