MASON CITY – This Mason City woman had extra reason to celebrate after she went to her grandma’s birthday party and came home with big bucks from a lottery scratch ticket.

According to the Iowa Lottery, at a birthday bash for her grandmother, Alyea Carter Greenan of Mason City and her family took turns scratching lottery tickets. The room erupted with yelling, hugging, and happy chaos when Alyea uncovered a $100,000 winner.

“At the moment, I just want to pay off my student loans and celebrate with my family, whether that’s a vacation or just being together,” Alyea told the lottery.

Her big win came on a “$100,000 Mega Crossword” ticket from the South Illinois Street Hy-Vee in Mason City.

“Congrats, Alyea (pictured at top, via  Iowa Lottery). Let the celebration begin!”
