Waverly, Iowa
WAVERLY – The shirt says Sturgis, the record screams “been there done that” and the look is cold as ice after an alleged beating, but the outcome is in doubt after a plea of innocence.

On September 9, 2025, the Waverly Police Department responded to an assault call at a Waverly residence. The victim of the assault was transported by ambulance to WHC for treatment of his injury. Police said the alleged offender had fled the scene on a motorcycle.

Officers contacted the suspect, 52-year-old David Michael Risse of Dysart, Iowa, at a nearby convenience store. Police arrested Risse at the scene on the following charges:

  • Assault w/Intent to Inflict Serious Injury (aggravated misdemeanor)

  • Possession of Marijuana (enhanced aggravated misdemeanor)

Risse was taken to the Bremer County Jail where he was released on a $4,300 bond amount a few days later. Risse awaits a pretrial conference on February 24 and a possible jury trial on March 5.

Risse (pictured at top) has a rap sheet that might stagger the average citizen, going back decades, for felonies and misdemeanors ranging from three drunk driving convictions, burglaries, harassment, drug crimes, theft, and more.
