In the “Presence of God”

We are deeply saddened by the passing of a remarkable woman—a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved great-grandmother — whose life was a steady testament to faith, family, and unwavering grace. Her quiet strength and boundless love anchored generations, shaping hearts and homes with kindness and conviction. We gather in grief, yet also in gratitude, honoring the extraordinary legacy she leaves behind. May we find comfort in shared memories and the assurance that her light will continue to guide us, now and always, through faithful prayer and love. We gather in both “prayerful thought” and “because” of Marie.

Marie Timmerman was born 11-30-32 to Gaston and Lena (Dobbelaere) Timmerman in Ghent, MN. She attended school in Ghent and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Graceville, MN in 1950. Nearly 72 years ago (on Feb 1, 1954) she married Robert Hamerlinck at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Minnesota, MN. To this union, nine children were born.

Marie worked in the bank in Minnesota for 2 ½ years. She helped Bob with the farm from 1954 to 1963. The family moved to Emmetsburg in 1964, building Bob’s Diner. She helped build the business while raising her family. Later, she worked at Emmetsburg Catholic School in Food Service for 18 years.

She enjoyed playing cards and crocheting for the family. She was a member of the Funeral Choir at the Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Marie was a very loving mother and grandmother – never forgetting a birthday or a personal holiday. Always having time for her children and all of their friends. Her anchor in her faith was very important to her and has impacted the lives of generations.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Gaston and Lena Timmerman, her brothers, Leo, Andrew, and Archie and sister Bertha DeVlaeminck.

She is survived by her husband Bob and sister Florence Soenen of Emmetsburg, IA, and her children Janine (Gary) Fields, Watertown, SD; Carol (Joe) Romaire, Blair, NE; Roland (Joyce) Hamerlinck, Emmetsburg, IA; Michael (Rose) Hamerlinck, Burt, IA; Debbie (Jim) Kneip, Luverne, MN; Brenda (Brian) Phelps, Dell Rapids, SD; Becky (Justin) Woltmann, Avoca, IA; Craig (Sheila) Hamerlinck, Huxley, IA; Mark (Lisa) Hamerlinck, LeMars, IA – Numerous grandchildren (22) and great grandchildren (26) and growing in Marie’s love of her family.
