LuDean Suckow, 88, of Maynard, Iowa, died Thursday evening, January 8, 2026, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, Iowa with her family by her side.
Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard, with Rev. Randy Baldwin officiating.
Visitation: 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church.
Inurnment: Long Grove Cemetery, Maynard.

LuDean Postel was born on August 22, 1937, an only child of Homer L. and Afton (Nelson) Postel in Odgen, Utah. In 1941, her family moved to California. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. LuDean graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California in June of 1955. She worked as a secretary at a California car dealership. On January 6, 1956, she was united in marriage to Robert Emil Suckow at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Long Beach, California. In 1966, LuDean and Bob chose to return to Maynard, where they raised four boys. LuDean worked at Dave’s Market in Maynard for several years and later Fareway Grocery in Oelwein. She also worked for 14 years as a secretary at Prairie View Residential Care Facility in Fayette. After retirement, LuDean was an Avon consultant in the area. She loved being around people and living in a small community. LuDean was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard. She enjoyed following all her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. LuDean and Bob shared a special love for their pet dog Levi, but Bob was Levi’s first choice.
LuDean is survived by her 3 sons: Brian Suckow (Maryanne Adams) of Tiffin, Doug (Karla) Suckow of Fredericksburg and Rick (Lori) Suckow of Oelwein; daughter-in-law: Glenda Suckow of Maynard; 12 grandchildren : Matt (Katie) Suckow, Adam Suckow, Jenna (Spencer) Cunningham, Evan (Allison) Suckow, Travis (Jeannie) Suckow, Amber Suckow, Neil (Jena) Suckow, Kelly (Colin) Koch, Brett (Allison) Suckow, Drew Suckow, Laine (Nathan) Suckow-Cassady and Rachel (Jeremy) Elsbernd; and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Bob on June 7, 2024; son: Bruce Suckow; daughter-in-law: Chris Suckow; parents-in-law: Helmuth and Esther Suckow.
