BOONE – This man, whom authorities say is residing in Mason City, was accused and convicted of fresh drug crimes to add to his already decorated criminal history, and somehow was given a suspended prison sentence.

According to records, 44-year-old Robert Daniel Smith, was stopped in Boone, Iowa, back in May of this year, and accused of driving without a license. He was also allegedly nabbed with illegal substances, a crime he has committed before, along with being a convicted meth dealer and felon for forgery and burglary.

After his arrest and journey through the Iowa court system, Smith was sentenced by the District Court in Boone county following a guilty plea to class D felony possession of a controlled substance as a habitual offender. Smith (pictured at top) was sentenced to 15 years in prison with 3 year minimum if ever imposed, but all suspended. On the suspended portion, Smith was placed on probation with terms to include a substance abuse evaluation with follow through, a course for drinking drivers, plus payment of a fine and fees.

The case was investigated by the Boone Police Department.
