INDEPENDENCE, IOWA – Law enforcement in this Northern Iowa county announced numerous recent arrests for week of Oct. 12-18, 2025

On Sunday, October 12, 2025 at approximately 6:30 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Carah Belle Evans, 42, of Fairbank. Evans was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Benton County for Failure to Appear. While Deputies were present, drug related items were observed. Subsequently, a search warrant was applied for and executed. Accordingly, Evans was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine (class C felony), Possession of Controlled Substance – LSD (serious misdemeanor), Possession of Controlled Substance – methylenedioxymethamphetamine (class C felony), first offense Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana (serious misdemeanor), Drug Tax Stamp Violation (class D felony), Keeping Vehicle or Premises for Controlled Substance Use (aggravated misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). This arrest was made in the 1100 blk Carter Avenue.

On Monday, October 13, 2025 at approximately 1:40 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Dakota Anthony Main, 27, of Vinton. Main was arrested on an active arrest warranto out of Buchanan County for Probation Violation. This arrest was made near Second Street South and 220th Street in Winthrop.

On Monday, October 13, 2025 at approximately 6:35 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Thomas Frank Fitzgerald Potts, 21, of Hazleton. Potts was charged with first offense Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana (serious misdemeanor), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor) and Persons Ineligible to Carry Weapon (serious misdemeanor). This arrest was made in the 100 blk N Main Street in Hazleton and stems from a drug related search warrant that was executed on July 31, 2025 at the same location.

On Monday, October 13, 2025 at approximately 4:20 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Isaiah Malik Pratt, 24, of Cedar Falls. Pratt was charged with Violation of Protection Order (simple misdemeanor) and held at the Buchanan County Jail.

On Monday, October 13, 2025 at approximately 6:50 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Ian Douglas MacPherson, 35, of Independence. MacPherson was charged with fifth degree Theft (simple misdemeanor) related to an incident that occurred in Hazleton on October 11, 2025. During this arrest, drug related items were observed by Deputies. Subsequently, MacPherson was charged with second offense Possession of Controlled substance – Marijuana (serious misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). This arrest was made in the 500 blk Fifth Avenue SW in Independence.

On Monday, October 13, 2025 at approximately 10:30 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Ladonna Ann Poggenpohl, 49, of Independence. Poggenpohl was charged with third degree Theft (aggravated misdemeanor) stemming from an incident that occurred in Hazleton on October 11, 2025. Additionally, Poggenpohl was charged with third or subsequent offense Possession of Controlled Substance – (aggravated misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor) based upon a search warrant. This arrest was made in the 500 blk Fifth Avenue SW in Independence.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at approximately 7:45 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Delwin Troy Thompson, 59, of Independence. Thompon was charged with third offense Possession of Controlled Substance (class D felony), Drug Tax Stamp Violation (Class D felony), Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drug (serious misdemeanor), Keeping Vehicle or Premises for Controlled Substance Use (aggravated misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor), and held on bond at the Buchanan County Jail. This arrest stems from an incident that occurred on June 29, 2025 in the 1800 blk Henley Avenue.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at approximately 7:45 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Craig Dean Summers, 67, of Independence. Summers was charged with third offense Possession of Controlled Substance (class D felony) and Drug Tax Stamp Violation (Class D felony), and held on bond at the Buchanan County Jail. This arrest stems from an incident that occurred on June 29, 2025 in the 1800 blk Henley Avenue.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at approximately 8:40 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Shelley Ann Thompson, 61, of Independence. Thompson was charged with Drug Tax Stamp Violation (Class D felony), second offense Possession of Controlled substance – Marijuana (serious misdemeanor), second offense Possession of Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine (aggravated misdemeanor), Keeping Vehicle or Premises for Controlled Substance Use (aggravated misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor), and held on bond at the Buchanan County Jail. This arrest stems from an incident that occurred on June 29, 2025 in the 1800 blk Henley Avenue.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at approximately 3:45 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Jerome Robert Schuneman, 43, of Oelwein. Schuneman was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County or original charges of second offense Domestic Abuse Assault (aggravated misdemeanor) and False Imprisonment (serious misdemeanor), and was taken into custody from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at approximately 10:30 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Daniel Paul Grubbe, 58, of Independence. Grubbe was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for Parole Violation and was taken into custody from the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office.

On Thursday, October 16, 2025 at approximately 6:00 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Layne Robert Cody Gibson, 20, of Hazleton. Gibson was charged with Drug Tax Stamp Violation (Class D felony), first offense Possession of Controlled substance – Marijuana (simple misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). This arrest stems from a drug related search warrant that was executed on July 31, 2025 in the 100 blk N Main Street in Hazleton.

On Thursday, October 16, 2025 at approximately 8:50 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Matthew John Seastrand, 50, of Farmington. Seastrand was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for original charges of Drug Tax Stamp Violation (Class D felony), second offense Possession of Controlled Substance (aggravated misdemeanor), Keeping Vehicle or Premises for Controlled Substance Use (aggravated misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor), and held on bond at the Buchanan County Jail.

On Thursday, October 16, 2025 at approximately 8:50 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Todd Alen Meyeraan, Sr., 60, of Sheldon, Tara Leigh Beau, 55, of Sheldon and Linda Kay Oliphant, 64, of Rowley. Meyeraan, Beau and Oliphant were each arrested on active arrest warrants out of Van Buren County for original charges of third degree Burglary (class D felony), fourth degree Criminal Mischief (serious misdemeanor) and fourth degree heft (serious misdemeanor). Each were held on bond at the Buchanan County Jail pending transfer to Van Buren County.

On Friday, October 17, 2025 at approximately 3:40 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Scott Allan Calkins, 55, of Clutier. Calkins was charged with Driving While License Suspended (simple misdemeanor). This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 1900 blk Frost Avenue.

On Friday, October 17, 2025 at approximately 11:00 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Eldin Joshua James Lybarger-Anderson, 21, of Clermont. Lybarger-Anderson was arrested on an active arrest warranto out of Buchanan County for original charges of Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana (serious misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor), and held on bond at the Buchanan County Jail.

On Friday, October 17, 2025 at approximately 11:55 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Austin James Bushaw, 23, of Hazleton. Bushaw was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for original charges of Violation or Protection Order (simple misdemeanor), and held on bond at the Buchanan County Jail.

On Saturday, October 18, 2025 at approximately 1:10 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Glendolyn Jane Elliott, 58, of Independence. Elliott was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for original charges of Possession of Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine (class B felony), third or subsequent offense Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana (aggravated misdemeanor), Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drug (serious misdemeanor), Drug Tax Stamp Violation (class D felony), Keeping Vehicle or Premises for Controlled Substance Use (aggravated misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). This arrest was made in the 500 blk Ninth Avenue SE in Independence and stems from a search warrant executed on September 04, 2025.

On Saturday, October 18, 2025 at approximately 7:25 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Rex Allen Yearous, Sr., 62, Rex Allen Yearous, Jr., 42, Logan Allen Yearous, 19, and Thomas William Yearous, 18, all of Independence. All four were arrested on active arrest warrants out of Buchanan County for an original charge of Disorderly Conduct (simple misdemeanor) and held on bond at the Buchanan County Jail.

On Saturday, October 18, 2025 at approximately 9:05 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Chris Alen Schoultz, 62, and Melissa Dawn Randall, 52, both of Hazleton. Schoultz and Randall were each arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for original charges of second offense Possession of Controlled Substance – (Methamphetamine), second offense Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana (serious misdemeanor), Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs (serious misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). These arrests were made in the 100 blk Madison Street in Hazleton and stem from a search warrant at the same location on June 27, 2025.
