IOWA CITY – A convicted Northern Iowa murderer who shot and killed his female acquaintance decades ago has died in prison after being hospitalized.
Rick Allen DeVries was pronounced dead at 5:46 AM on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals Clinic. DeVries was 61 years old at the time of his death.
DeVries had been serving 50 years for the crime of murder from Chickasaw county. His sentence began on Oct. 15, 2004.
Back on October 18, 2003, 22-year-old Rachel Fischer was shot to death in the New Hampton, Iowa, area by Rick Allen Devries, then age 39, a man with whom she lived.
