MASON CITY – An April shooting incident in Mason City’s East Park that left at least one person wounded has continued to be investigated by police, and now six men are facing felony riot charges.
NIT reported back in April on this gun and physical violence. On Thursday, April 24, 2025, the Mason City Police Department responded to a shooting call at East Park at approximately 9:12 PM. A caller reported to dispatch a fight and possible shots fired near State Street. Officers arrived in the area and found an adult male – later identified as Ean Arp – who was suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to MercyOne by Mason City Fire Department paramedics.
“We do not have an update on his condition at this time,” Chief Jeff Brinkley said after the shooting, but in a follow-up story NIT published in May, Chief Brinkley said Arp had been released from the hospital. NIT also reported that Ladainian Pannhoff of Mason City, has been charged with being a prohibited possessor of a firearm, and possession of marijuana. Pannhoff and Arp knew each other prior to shooting.
Then, on September 24, Mason City police applied for arrest warrants for the following suspects on a charge of Participate in a Riot (a class D felony): Damon Barker, Parker Thompson, Ladanian Pannhoff, Ean Arp, Mingo Flores, Terry Arp Jr.
Ladanian Pannhoff has also been charged with trafficking in stolen firearms used in a crime.
Mason City police told NIT that “most of these defendants were arrested in Mason City between Sept 26-27, 2025.”
An MCPD spokesman also told NIT that “State charges have been filed. Federal charges may be applicable to some of the defendants as well. I can’t say much more than what is listed on the complaints for now. Stay tuned as these cases navigate through court. The story will become clearer when the defendants are prosecuted.”
