MANSON, IOWA — An van carrying folks sitting on patio furniture crossed a Northern Iowa highway’s center line and slammed into a young man’s Chevy Silverado pickup truck, and two people were killed and four hurt in the mayhem that followed.
Two people are were killed and four hurt in a Saturday auto accident in Calhoun county.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place around 9:50 PM three miles east of Manson, Iowa, on Highway 7. The Patrol says a Chevy van driven by 46-year-old Wilfredo Quevedo Mesa Storm Lake, Iowa, was westbound on Highway 7 when it crossed the center line and was struck by a Chevy Silverado pickup driven by 21-year-old Conner Darr of Manson. The Patrol reported that three people in the van were sitting on patio furniture purchased prior to the collision. None of them were wearing seatbelts.
As a result of the collision, Mesa’s van rolled onto its side in the ditch, and Darr’s pickup entered the ditch and struck a utility pole before coming to rest in the field.
Two passengers in the van, 26-year-old Alondra Bravo and 34-year-old Jorge Perez Hechavarria, both of Storm Lake, were killed and pronounced deceased at the scene. Three other passengers in the van, 8-year-old Luis Bravo, 46-year-old Marina Escalante, and Mesa, were injured and hospitalized.
Dar was taken by ambulance to Unity Point Hospital in Fort Dodge.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by Calhoun County EMS, Life Flight, and Fort Dodge Fire and Rescue.
