Man traveling with child arrested after drunk driving crash near Mason City

RURAL MASON CITY - Police say a Nora Springs man was traveling with a child while under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his Chevy Impala into a utility pole.

RURAL MASON CITY – Police say a Nora Springs man was traveling with a child while under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his Chevy Impala into a utility pole.

On March 16, 2023, at 6:17 PM, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office responded with the Iowa State Patrol to a single vehicle accident in the 18000 block of 245th street. Dylan James Collins, age 32 of Nora Springs and passenger Launa Lyn, age 4, were traveling east of 245th Street when he lost control of a 2010 Chevrolet Impala, entered the ditch and struck a utility pole. Both occupants were treated at the scene by Mason City Fire Department EMS for minor injuries. Police say alcohol was a contributing factor.

Dylan Collins was arrested and charged with operation while intoxicated 2nd offense, possession of a controlled substance 3rd offense, driving under suspension, child endangerment- bodily injury, and failure to maintain control.

He is currently being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol and Mason City fire medics.
