DES MOINES – Women are definitely not choosing to have abortions in Iowa at the rate they once did, thanks to the state’s newly-minted “heartbeat law,” and Governor Kim Reynolds is taking a victory lap, with statistics to back it up.

“One year after the Heartbeat Law went into effect, abortions in lowa are down by nearly 60%,” Kim Reynolds proclaimed today.

“A powerful victory for life, and it’s all because Iowans and their representatives stood strong for the rights of the unborn.”

According to a graphic shared by Reynolds, the number of abortions performed in Iowa are down dramatically, from 1792 in 2024 to just 378 in 2025:

Abortion advocates are not happy with this outcome. One naysayer lamented, “People are just going to other states.”

Another rabid proponent of ending the lives of the unborn wrote, “What a tragic statistic. You’ve driven them out of the state, underground, and caused irreparable harm to thousands of Iowan families. Besides destroying our education and farming now you can rank ruining health for pregnant women up there too…just a despicable leader.”

Iowa is a deep-red state that loves conservative leadership, as evidenced by recent election outcomes, and likely, most voters applaud this development.  Another commenter offered, “Bless you Governor Reynolds!!!!!! Thanks so much for your leadership!”
