WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, President Donald Trump had a long conversation with his on-again, off-again pal Vladimir Putin, the despotic ruler of stumbling Russia, after Ukraine delivered a sophisticated and devastating drone attack to defend itself from the Russian onslaught, and meanwhile U.S. officials are celebrating a plan to rebuild the crumbling nation despite Putin’s claim it should give up.
Yesterday, Ukraine observed the Day of Remembrance for children killed as a result of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. Hundreds of children have been killed in the war since 2022, and thousands more wounded and kidnapped by Russian orcs at the behest of bloodthirsty, delusional Putin. This observation comes on the heels of a sophisticated and remarkably effective drone attack on Russian military targets used to terrorize peaceful Ukrainian civilians. Ukraine also performed an explosive attack on the bridge to Crimea, an area invaded by Russian forces back in 2014 and claimed by both sides.

“Protecting children is our duty,” the Ukrainian military said. “And at the same time, it is a shared responsibility of the entire free world.” Ukraine has the backing of the United State and Europe, where billions in various forms of aid have poured in since the war began, hoping to stave off total Russian victory. In fact, this week, Great Britain announced millions of pounds to Ukraine for more drones.
As this backdrop of total war in Eastern Europe unfolds, and Russian and Ukrainian delegates continue to meet with little common ground found, U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Putin. Here is his description of the call:

Even as this phone call unfolded, today, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent met with First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko of Ukraine.
Secretary Bessent reaffirmed the United States’ support for Ukrainian sovereignty and emphasized the United States’ dedication to secure a lasting, durable peace. The Secretary emphasized his excitement about the operationalization of the U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund, and emphasized the importance of maintaining positive momentum towards an ongoing and regular cadence of U.S.-Ukraine engagements on this important partnership.
Secretary Bessent underscored the United States’ commitment to ensuring that no one who financed or supplied the Russian war machine should be allowed to benefit from the reconstruction of Ukraine, including participation in projects supported by Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund resources.
President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, also sounded off today to observe the loss of children at the hand of Russian orcs and also to thank those who are standing by his nation’s side:

Facts are stubborn things. Since the beginning of this year, the Russian army has carried out attacks against Ukraine using nearly 27,700 aerial bombs, almost 11,200 Shahed drones, around 9,000 other types of attack UAVs, and more than 700 missiles, including ballistic ones. And that’s in less than half a year. This is the pace of Russian strikes, and they deliberately set this tempo from the very first days of the full-scale war. Russia has restructured its entire state, society, and economy to be able to kill people in other countries on a massive scale and with impunity. Many have spoken with Russia at various levels. But none of these talks have brought a reliable peace, or even stopped the war. Unfortunately, Putin feels impunity. Even after all of Russia’s horrific attacks, he is reportedly preparing yet more so-called “responses.” It means, that with every new strike, with every delay of diplomacy, Russia is giving the finger to the entire world — to all those who still hesitate to increase pressure on it. Yet, it is Russia that should be seeking peace. It is in Moscow that they must begin to feel that war carries a cost, a high cost, and the highest one should be paid by the aggressor. If the world reacts weakly to Putin’s threats, he interprets it as a readiness to turn a blind eye to his actions. When he does not feel strength and pressure, but instead senses weakness, he always commits new crimes. He sees such an attitude as silent permission: permission for new atrocities, new strikes, new killings. That is why we in Ukraine are so grateful to everyone in the world who is trying to stop this war and stop Russia’s attacks. To everyone who tells the killer that he will be held accountable. To everyone who says Russian missiles and bombs must stop taking innocent lives. Russia must bring back peace. And today, on the Day of Remembrance of Ukrainian Children Killed by Russian Aggression, we remind the powerful of this world of the facts. If the powerful do not stop Putin, it means they share responsibility with him. And if they want to stop him but cannot, then Putin will no longer see them as powerful.
There appears to be no end to this war in sight, despite Trump’s campaign promise to end the war immediately upon taking office.

1 thought on “Trump has long convo with Putin after Ukraine delivers massive drone strike on Russia”
trump was probably trying to explain why the US had no advance warning of Ukraine’s attack and why we didn’t warn Vlad what was coming.
