MASON CITY – A Garner man traveled to Mason City, allegedly donned a disguise, and then attempted to kidnap a female at the local Aldi grocery store, and now he has some real explaining to do.

On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at approximately 1:17 PM, the Mason City Police Department responded to an attempted kidnapping at the Aldi Grocery Store, located at 520 Village Green Drive.

When officers arrived, they learned that a male wearing a disguise had attempted to abduct a female while displaying a weapon. Officers obtained preliminary information from the victim and witnesses and put out an attempt-to-locate on the suspect and his vehicle. A short time later, the suspect and vehicle were located in Hancock County. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Blair Justin Greiman (pictured at top), age 60 from Garner, Iowa, has been charged with Kidnapping in the 2nd Degree, a class B felony. Greiman is currently being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail awaiting an initial court appearance.

Mason City chief of police Jeff Brinkley noted that “MCPD would like to recognize the bystanders and witnesses who assisted the victim in this incident as it unfolded and also those who provided information to arriving officers. The quick work by everyone involved helped law enforcement to quickly track down and apprehend the suspect.

“We would ask anyone with information about this incident to contact Lieutenant Brett Hollander at the Mason City Police Department at 641-421-3636.”

The Mason City Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the Mason City Fire Department, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
