MARSHALLTOWN – A tragic Iowa house fire trapped a 3-year-old girl in a second floor room and although responders arrived quickly, her life could not be saved.
At approximately 4:00 PM on Monday, February 10, 2025, the Marshalltown Fire Department was dispatched to 505 E Church Street in Marshalltown for a residential fire with a trapped victim on the second floor.
Police were first to arrive and directed firefighters to the victim’s location. Two firefighters attempted a ladder rescue from the rear of the house, and two entered the front of the structure and found a 3-year-old female victim unconscious on the second floor. The victim was rescued from the house and CPR was started immediately. Unity Point EMS arrived shortly after and transported the patient from the scene. Initially, the patient had been resuscitated and transported by air to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in critical condition.
The Fire Department arrived on the scene at 4:06 PM and the victim was rescued at 4:08 PM. The fire was quickly brought under control with two attack lines. The fire was investigated by the Marshalltown Fire and Police Department.
The Iowa State Fire Marshal Special Agents were called to assist with the investigation.
The family of the fire victim is being supported by family and the American Red Cross, Marshalltown Police. Marshalltown Public Works, Alliant Energy, Iowa State Fire Marshals, and Unity Point EMS assisted at the scene.
Tragically, the 3-year-old victim rescued from the fire on February 10 succumbed to her injuries and died early on the morning of February 12 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
