MASON CITY – This Northern Iowa sex offender victimized a young boy, then left the area only to be caught fleeing through Nebraska where he battled cops – and now he’s back home to face justice.

On or about July 12, 2024, a Nebraska police conducted a traffic stop on Octavius Orlando Hurst, Jr., of Charles City at the time. Hurst was apparently traveling west – away from Iowa – where he was reportedly wanted by authorities in connection to a violent sex crime. A Nebraska news outlet reported that during that traffic stop, Hurst started up his car, and “an officer tried reaching inside the vehicle to get Hurst to stop, but sped away, dragging the officer 50 feet.

As more cops joined the pursuit, the news outlet reported, “speeds reached more than 120 miles per hour.  Officers used road spikes to slow the vehicle at the intersection of Walker Road and Hershey Dickens Road. Hurst drove into a wheat stubble field where the car started on fire and was arrested.”

Hurst was placed in a Lincoln, county, Nebraska, jail cell on July 12 and has remained there ever since, according to the Iowa Sex Offender Registry.

However, Hurst (pictured at top), now age 22, is in a Mason City jail cell, facing the following charges:

– Absence from Custody

– Violation Of Probation

– Sex Offender Registration Req Violation – 2nd Off

– Failure to Appear – on Citation

– Violation Of Probation

Records show Hurst was convicted in Floyd county on a charge of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, on August 2, 2022.  His victim was a male child between the ages of 14 – 17.  He was generously sentenced to a 2-year suspended prison sentence, 2 years of probation, and $438.75 owed to Iowa courts.  Hurst so far hasn’t paid a dime on that balance.  After he was guilty of violating his probation in April of 2024, he was given 30 days in jail and became a resident of Mason City as authorities placed him in the Beje Clark Residential fortress for the hopeless and criminally deranged.  He evidently fled that cushy existence for greener pastures out West, but Nebraska authorities had other plans.
