Iowa apartment shootout delivers two persons to hospital

POMEROY, IOWA – Persons inside a remote Iowa apartment drew weapons, pointed and fired upon one another, and the bullets inflicted wounds that required hospitalization.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) are investigating a shooting that occurred on the morning of December 31, 2024, in Pomeroy, Iowa.

Preliminary reports indicated to police that an altercation inside an apartment escalated into an exchange of gunfire involving multiple individuals.

Two of the persons involved in the altercation have been hospitalized for gunshot wounds. Their condition is unknown at this time.

All individuals believed to have been involved in the altercation have been identified and are accounted for. The investigation is ongoing, and no further individuals are being sought by police at this time.

This shooting remains under active investigation. Law enforcement believes this was an isolated event, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

The Calhoun County Attorney’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, the Manson Police Department, and the Fort Dodge Police Department are assisting the Calhoun County Sheriffs Office and DCI in this investigation.
