FORT DODGE – A dangerous situation was dealt with by firefighters in Fort Dodge when a fuel truck erupted in flames at the local airport.

On the morning of November 17, 2024, at 8:45 AM, Fort Dodge firefighters were dispatched to Fort Dodge Regional Airport for reports of a fuel truck on fire. Initial reports stated the cab of the fuel truck was on fire with another fuel truck in close proximity.

Units responded and located the truck with a fully involved fire in the cab, and no extension to the aircraft fuel or the adjacent truck. Firefighters gained access to a specialized airport fire truck and deployed it to extinguish the fire. Engine also laid an attack line to assist with fire suppression. There were no injuries report and the fire was determined to be accidental.

Fort Dodge Fire Department assists the airport staff with firefighters duties called ARFF. Currently there are 6 firefighters specially trained in ARFF tactics and 2 were on shift when the fire was called in. Fortunately, this allowed firefighters to quickly extinguish the fire with their ARFF knowledge and familiarization with the airport’s firetruck.
