MASON CITY – If you drive on U.S. 65/South Federal Avenue in Mason City you know that the U.S. 65 reconstruction project is currently in progress. U.S. 65/South Federal Avenue is currently closed from the south half of the intersection with 19th Street Southeast to 20th Street Southeast. Beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 23, weather permitting, the next phase of the project will begin.
Crews will open the area currently under construction and close U.S. 65/South Federal Avenue from the north half of the intersection with 19th Street Southeast to approximately 17th Street Southeast. The current detour route will no longer be used once the switch takes place around noon on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
For the new detour route, you will travel on U.S. 65/South Federal Avenue, 19th Street Southwest, South Monroe Avenue, and 5th Street Southwest (see map).
The south half of the 19th Street Southeast intersection will remain open for east/west traffic, but you cannot go north on U.S. 65/South Federal Avenue from that intersection. Traffic signals at the intersection of South Monroe Avenue and 15th Street Southwest on the detour route will also be in use.
Work on U.S. 65/South Federal Avenue is anticipated to be completed by Thursday, Nov. 28, weather permitting.
The latest traveler information is available anytime through the 511 system.

The most hilarious part of this is that they will finish this project before the bridge on hwy 122 by Walmart gets done.
Also they will then notice that the new intersection is 6-10 inches lower than the ITRR tracks and will have to be ripped up or blacktopped over.
