MASON CITY – A third Dollar General store may be built in Mason City as city hall considers a proposal.
According to city documents made public, Mason City’s development review committee met multiple times and reviewed concept plans for new proposals. One of the concept plans they reviewed was a major site plan for a potential Dollar General store that could be built at in the area of 12th Street NW and North Pierce Avenue. In order for that proposal to be accepted, a rezoning to Z4 and a plat of subdivision would have to be approved to allow that kind of development. Currently, there is a Casey’s General Store there, surrounded by farm fields, houses and nearby factories.
Mason City already has one Dollar General Store on South Federal Avenue in the Southport shopping area. The Development Review Committee approved plans for that store back in 2022 and it was quickly built and opened to serve new customers. (CORRECTION: There is also a Dollar General in downtown Mason City. )

What a joke, dollar stores exploit the poor and uneducated.
There are two Dollar General stores already. Downtown by the Manor is the second one.
Thank you for the reminder!
