MASON CITY – If you drive on Iowa U.S. 65/South Federal Avenue between 20th Street Southeast to 19th Street South in Mason City you need to be aware of an upcoming road closure that may impact your trip.
Beginning on Monday, Aug. 19, until mid-October 2024, weather permitting, crews will close the roadway.
While U.S. 65/South Federal Avenue is closed you will follow a marked detour route by traveling on Cerro Gordo County Road B-35, Quail Avenue/Kentucky Avenue, and 19th Street Southeast.
19th Street will remain open, but you will drive in a head-to-head traffic pattern in the westbound lanes while construction occurs in the eastbound lanes. You will only be able to travel north on U.S. 65/South Federal Avenue from 19th Street.
Expect additional closures this fall as reconstruction work continues on U.S. 65.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
