SAC CITY – An Iowa woman apparently drove her vehicle off the roadway and ended up overturned in a river, losing her life in the incident.
On July 19, 2024, around 10:18 AM, Sac County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an overturned vehicle in the North Raccoon River at Hagge Park. The 2003 Red Jeep Cherokee was pulled out of the river via tow truck and a deceased female was located within the vehicle. The female was identified as 30-year-old Samantha Faylee Trimpe of Breda, Iowa.
The travel direction of the vehicle from tire patterns at the scene indicated no sudden braking or change of direction before the vehicle went into the river. Trimpe’s remains will be sent to the Office of the State Medical Examiner for autopsy. There is no indication of foul play.
Sac County Sheriff’s Office is greatly appreciative of mutual response by other agencies to include: Sac City Police Department, Sac City Fire Department, Sac County EMS, and the Sac County Medical Examiner Investigator.
A final autopsy report for Trimpe was received by the sheriff’s office on 9/13/2024. In accordance with IA §22.7(41)(c), “information regarding the cause and manner of death shall not be kept confidential under this subsection, unless disclosure would jeopardize an investigation or pose a clear and present danger to the public safety of an individual”.
As such, the following information was obtained from the final autopsy report:
Cause of Death: Drowning
Other Significant Conditions: Acute intoxication due to the combined effects of alcohol, lorazepam, amphetamine, and ftuoxetine
Manner of Death: Undetermined
Regarding the manner of death, it is stated: “The manner of death is certified as undetermined as it cannot be determined whether she Lost consciousness and drove into the river or if it was intentional”.
