Northern Iowa has been devastated by torrential rains and loaded rivers, engulfing towns like Spencer and many others.  Sandbagging has been ongoing all the way to Charles City and beyond as the Cedar River rises above 20 feet crest.  Some Iowans may get help, like SNAP.

Meanwhile, Reynolds has been “flying over flood ravaged NW IA with members of my cabinet,” she said Saturday.  “Rivers cresting above 1993 record levels and the devastation is widespread. I’m committing the full resources of the state & coordinating with fed. agencies to help Iowans recover.”  She will likely next be pleading with President Biden for help.  No word thus far on any flood prevention ideas to ward of future disaster, as the state sits on billions in rainy day funds.

Also, the Iowa Department of Transportation reports, “Between the evening of June 20 and morning of June 22, portions of northwest Iowa received significant rain, resulting in flooding along various primary highways. There are currently widespread flash flooding and river flooding issues.  Iowans are urged to closely monitor conditions and never enter a water-covered roadway. Flood waters can force a vehicle off the roadway. In addition, it is not uncommon for roadways and shoulders to be damaged when flooded, presenting unsafe conditions for motorists. The Iowa Department of Transportation has issued the warning of travel strongly discouraged in the counties of Lyon, Sioux, O’Brien, Clay, Emmet, and Dickinson.”
