RURAL CHARLES CITY – A Floyd teen was hurt near Charles City today and taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital after the car she was driving rear-ended a school bus.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place Thursday, May 23, 2024. At 12:21 PM, a 2009 Blue Bird school bus driven by 66-year-old Jeffrey Lee Gelner of Charles City was stopped on Riverview Drive near Highway 18, just outside Charles City, dropping off students. At this time, a 2012 Chevy Traverse driven by 15-year-old Nya Lee Nosbisch of Floyd approached and rear-ended the school bus.

As a result of the collision, Nya Lee Nosbisch was transported to Mercy One by AMR Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. No students on the bus, the Patrol says, were hurt.

Assisting in the incident were Floyd county sheriff, Charles City police and the Charles City fire department.
