IOWA CITY – Former University of Iowa football student-athlete Casey Wiegmann will be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on May 19 at Union Station in Kansas City.
Wiegmann was a three-year lettermen on Iowa’s offensive line. He was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection, a team MVP and captain, leading the team to eight wins and a Sun Bowl victory over Washington as a senior in 1995. Wiegmann was selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game following his senior season.
Wiegmann played 16 seasons in the National Football League, including nine seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2001-07 and again in 2010 and 2011. He made 175 career starts – never missing a single start – and covered 11,162 snaps. Both statistics are NFL records.
During his stint in Kansas City, the Chiefs won the AFC West Division and finished 13-3 in 2003, reached the playoffs again in 2006 in a 9-7 season, and won the division in 2010 when the team finished 10-6. During the course of his NFL career, Wiegmann played for three teams in his first three seasons and finished his career with the Chiefs after two seasons in Denver.
The Parkersburg, Iowa, native was the first honoree into the University of Iowa’s ANF Wall of Honor in 2012.
