OBIT: Richard Paul Hagelund

Richard Paul Hagelund, age 84, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Osage Rehab and Health Care Center in Osage, Iowa. Richard was born on March 10, 1941, in Austin, Minnesota, to Peter and Iva (Barton) Hagelund.

Richard Paul Hagelund, age 84, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Osage Rehab and Health Care Center in Osage, Iowa. Richard was born on March 10, 1941, in Austin, Minnesota, to Peter and Iva (Barton) Hagelund.

He graduated from high school in Austin. Richard proudly served in the United States Navy for over 20 years as a signalman and later with the military police. When he retired from the Navy he worked as a butcher. Richard met and married Rosella Jean Rohde at the Mona Lutheran Church on April 6, 1968. In 1971 the family grew from two to four when Richard and Rosie adopted two siblings, Christine and James. He was passionate about bowling, where he had 300 games numerous times, fishing, camping, and taking long road trips to visit family and friends. Richard will be remembered for his fun loving and joking personality.

Richard is survived by his wife, Rosella (Rohde) Hagelund of St. Ansgar; daughter, Christine Hagelund of Osage; son, James Hagelund of Kenosha, Wisconsin; grandson, Matthew Hagelund of Minnesota; granddaughter, Corvus Collins of Kenosha, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Sharon Hagelund of Minot, ND; brother-in-law, Duane Rohde of Maplewood, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Iva Hagelund; and brothers, Ronald and Arnold Hagelund.

The memorial service for Richard will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Mona Lutheran Church in Mona, Iowa. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
