SWEA CITY – A Northern Iowa traffic stop landed a felon in hot water when cops found an illegal gun, illicit drugs and paraphernalia.
On March 27, 2024, at about 10 PM, Kossuth County Deputy Sheriffs initiated a lawful traffic stop at 2nd Avenue and 4th Street North in Swea City. A certified K9 alerted on the vehicle, which indicated illegal narcotics within the vehicle.
After a search of the vehicle, deputies arrested:
Mary Andersen, age 42 of Swea City, on the following charges:
• Possession of a Controlled Substance, 3rd or subsequent offense, a Class D Felony
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor
• Failure to have a Valid Drivers License, a simple misdemeanor
• Felon in Possession of a Firearm , a Class D Felony
During the traffic stop, a male individual approached deputies on foot and attempted to interfere with the traffic stop. Deputies determined this individual was intoxicated. As a result, Richard Lewellen, age 42 of Bancroft was arrested and charged with:
• Public Intoxication (simple misdemeanor)
Both parties were booked into the Kossuth County Jail awaiting an initial appearance.
