June Arlis Osgood was born on November 4, 1925 in Lakota, Iowa, and was the daughter of Levi and Josephine (Fosen) Osgood. She grew up in Mason City and attended Mason City Schools. On May 19, 1945 she was united in marriage to Russell M. Lee in Paris, Texas. Together they were blessed with four children. June and Russell took an active role in helping their children’s Cross Country teams travel from meet to meet before the sport was ever officially recognized in the state.

She began her working life at a shipyard in Portland, Oregon, during WWII. Many years later she worked for Heritage Care Center and the Manor, Mason City, Iowa and was able to retire successfully at the age of 60. Living at the Manor for 17 years allowed her to stay as independent as she liked.

In June’s younger years she enjoyed roller skating, bowling, and exercising. She walked for fun and was able to ride her bicycle until 80 years old. June also liked traveling; she was able to see many different places like Colorado, Washington DC, Europe and most often Texas as she wintered there.

Those left to cherish memories of June are her four children, Lynn (Julie) Lee, Missouri Valley, Iowa, Mark (Marian) Lee, Ankeny, Iowa, Bert (Nancy) Lee, Mason City, Iowa, and Sandra (Jon) King, League City, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Jason (Diane) Lee, Reannon (Matt) Edgar, Matthew Lee, Seth (Kristin) Lee, Jacob Lee, Amber (Brad) Deets, Kristin (Michael) Daley, Travis (Crystal) King, Tyler (Kara) King, and Jordan (Hannah) King; 16 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

June was preceded in death by her husband Russell Lee; her parents, Levi and Josephine Osgood, seven brothers: LeRoy, Thurlow, Russell, Virgil, Wayne, Robert, three sisters: Mrs. Elvin (Norma) Anderson, Mrs. Herman (Ruth) Ellis and Mrs. Martis (Liala) Scalf.

Memorials may be directed to her family at 218 7th Street North, Missouri Valley, Iowa 51555.
