Northern Iowa man arrested after rural Forest City burglary, two-year investigation

FOREST CITY – A Northern Iowa man was arrested after a rural Forest City burglary and a two-year investigation.

On January 2, 2021, the Hancock County Sheriffs Office investigated a burglary in rural Forest City. As a result of the investigation a search warrant was executed on February 22, 2021, at 1495 Ford Avenue in Hancock County. While executing the search warrant, items taken from the burglary were located.

On April 21, 2023, following a two-year long investigation, Tommy Lee Gretillat, age 43 of Corwith, Iowa, was arrested and charged with:

– 3rd Degree Burglary

– 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief

– 1st Degree Theft

He has since bonded out of jail, records show.

The Hancock County Sheriffs Office was assisted in this investigation by the Garner Police Department; Kanawha Police Department; Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; and the Iowa State Fire Marshal Division.

Additional arrests related to this case are expected, Sheriff Robert Gerdes Jr. says.
