SUMNER, IOWA – An Iowa man is dead in a fatal Benton county t-bone auto collision after a Florida man failed to yield at a stop sign.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place Sunday, February 5, 2023. At about 3:08 PM that day, a 2007 Lexus ES350 driven by 22-year-old Carter John Harris of St. Cloud, Florida, was eastbound on County Highway C33 in rural Sumner, Iowa in Benton county and approached an intersection at County Highway V56. Harris allegedly failed to yield at the stop sign there as 22-year-old Derrius Grey Taylor-Ly of Altoon, Iowa, was driving northbound on V56 in a 2023 Hyundai Elantra. The Lexus then collided with the driver’s side of the Elantra.

As a result of the collision, both vehicles came to rest in the northeast ditch. Derrius Grey Taylor-Ly was killed. Carter John Harris was injured and taken to a Sumner hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
