Judith Karen Newport Hansen, 80, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri.

Judith Karen Newport Hansen, 80, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Counsell Woodley Funeral Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2023, at Hampton United Methodist Church. Burial will take place in the Hampton Cemetery. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home of Hampton is caring for Judi and her family.

She was born November 9, 1942, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Virgil and Vivian (Tindle) Newport. Judi graduated from Hampton High School in 1960. She attended Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduating in 1963, as an RN. Judi was united in marriage to Edward Hansen on September 14, 1963. She was a farm wife and night shift nurse at Franklin General Hospital. Judi stepped away from nursing in 1974 to become a full time farm wife, helping with livestock operations and raising three children: Colleen, Ronald and Kelly. In 1987, Judi accepted a position at Hampton Middle School as a para, office support, and school nurses aide. She retired from the school district in 2004. She enjoyed all card games, especially cribbage and bridge. She was an avid sports fan watching the Green Bay Packers, Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins, and all Iowa colleges, as well as the Hampton Dumont Teams and the Liberty Blue Jays. Judi kept meticulous records at all wrestling meets, swim meets, track meets and baseball games. She loved to travel and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She traveled all around the world including France, Germany and Australia, as well as memorable trips to Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, Alaska, Washington DC, South Carolina, Texas, Georgia, California, and Alabama. She was a champion of her grandchildren cheering for and supporting them in all of their endeavors right up to her last day.

She is survived by her children Colleen (Clay) Love of Edina, Minnesota, Ronald (Paige) Hansen of Hampton, Iowa, and Kelly (Ted) Minette of Liberty, Missouri; grandchildren Ryanne Hoogeboom, Eric Love, Jennifer Love, Patrick Hansen, Haylee Emerson, Maxwell Minette and Katherine Minette; great grandchildren Caelyn Pierson-Love, Kit Hoogeboom, Joshua Love, Nora Love, and Corvin Smith Love; brothers Ronald (Nancy) Newport of Fridley, Minnesota and Richard (Jeanne) Newport of Berlin, Wisconsin; brothers-in-law Harold (Jo) Hansen of Mason City, Iowa and Jim (Pam) Hansen of Hampton, Iowa.

Judith was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward, her parents, and her mother- and father-in-law Eino and Lucille Hansen.
