ROCKWELL – Two Northern Iowa men were hurt – one seriously – after an auto collision near Rockwell Wednesday afternoon.

On January 4, 2023, at 1:15 PM, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Raven Avenue and 180th Street in Cerro Gordo County. Michael Schroeder, 68, of Sheffield was westbound in a white 2001 GMC Sonoma. Tylar Runge, 24, of Mason City was Southbound on Raven Avenue in a White 2013 Ford F150. The two vehicles collided at the intersection and came to rest in a field. Schroeder was unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center by the Mason City Fire Department for serious injuries.

Road conditions and weather appear to have been a factor, the sheriff’s office says. The incident remains under investigation.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Rockwell EMT’s, Rockwell Fire Department, and Mason City Fire Medics.
