ALBIA, IOWA – An Iowa man is dead after being hit by a car.
On August 16, 2022, at 1:22 PM, Emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of Washington Ave and Clinton Street for a car vs pedestrian collision. Arriving responders found the pedestrian suffering severe injuries and not breathing. First responders immediately started CPR and the pedestrian was transported to the Monroe County Hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the motor vehicle was not injured.
The operator of the motor vehicle was identified as Michael Cox, age 33 of Albia, IA.
The pedestrian was identified as Timothy Olson, age 56 of Polk City, IA.
Preliminary information and investigation indicate Olson was crossing South Clinton Street at Washington from West to East at the crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle driven by Cox who was traveling South on South Clinton Street. The accident investigation is being conducted by the Iowa State Patrol. The agencies involved were the Albia Police Department, Albia Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Monroe County Ambulance and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
