MASON CITY – An outing to observe migrating waterfowl will be held on Saturday, March 27, from 8 a.m. – Noon beginning at the Lime Creek Nature Center. From the nature center participants will travel to local wetlands in Cerro Gordo County on a search for migrating ducks, geese, and other water birds. Kelly McKay, ornithologist with the BioEco Research and Monitoring Center, will lead the outing.
All levels of birding expertise are welcome. Binoculars and spotting scopes will be provided for those that need them. Participants are reminded to dress for the weather conditions.
Due to Covid-19 registration will be limited and social distancing will be practiced. Registration required – call 641-423-5309. Funding for this outing was provided by the Resource Enhancement and Protection – Conservation Education Program (REAP – CEP).
Could never understand the desire to kill. And killing from a tree stand? Do you really call that hunting? Sit on your little stool, play with your cell phone, see a deer, shoot at it, wound it, sit down on your little stool, and wait for another deer cause your too fat and lazy to climb down and track it for the kill. And don’t say you don’t cause I have talked to enough park rangers about how many dead animals they’ve found bled out with an arrow or bullet in them.

I think this refuge is good for everybody EXCEPT the wildlife – the DNR should BAN all hunting and TRAPPING in this refuge. Give the wild animals some break from the killers. What would it hurt ? Can’t call it a refuge if it endangers the habitants.
You are mixing up county and state land. Refuge was never mentioned in the article.
Just because you don’t like to hunt, fish, trap, or , I would almost bet, anything that requires you to be outdoors, doesn’t mean it should be banned.
That attitude shows that you are a liberal. If you think banning those activities would be so good, why don’t you look into the diseases that would bring. Check on the vermin, like rats and mice that would bring.
