Northern Iowa man caught after stealing guns and high speed chase

FAYETTE COUNTY, IOWA – A Northern Iowa man was caught after stealing guns and a high speed chase out of Waterloo, police say.

On February 11, 2021 at 9:00 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in Westgate, Iowa for a burglary. Once deputies arrived, they had discovered that 43-year-old Bryan Lee Rodas of Westgate had burglarized a residence and several firearms were stolen. An attempt to locate was put out to northeast Iowa Law Enforcement agencies to apprehend Rodas. Rodas was later located in Waterloo at the Isle Casino were authorities attempted to stop him which lead to a two-county chase on Hwy 20 with Iowa State Patrol, DNR, Black Hawk and Buchanan County Sheriff’s Offices and Waterloo and Independence police Departments. Rodas was arrested and taken to Blackhawk County Jail on local charges.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office seized the vehicle he was driving and conducted a search warrant on it. Several guns, money and methamphetamine were recovered during the search. Fayette County Sheriff’s Office filed Burglary in the 1st degree, a class “B” felony, possession of methamphetamine, Stalking, a class “D” felony and two counts of violation of an order of protection. If convicted he could face over 30 years in prison.
