Convicted Iowa kidnapper dies in prison; COVID-19 plays role in death

IOWA CITY – A convicted Iowa kidnapper died in prison this weekend, and COVID-19 played a role.

Timothy Christopher Bryant was pronounced dead, likely due to complications related to COVID-19 and other preexisting medical conditions at approximately 10:55 a.m. on Sunday, November 22, 2020 in at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Originally housed at the Anamosa State Penitentiary, he had been taken to the hospitals several days earlier for more advanced care as his medical condition began to worsen. Bryant was 59 years old at the time of his death.

Bryant had been serving a life sentence for the crime of Kidnapping 1st Degree from Polk County. His sentence began on February 25, 1992.
