Iowa political organization says Joni Ernst voted to take health care from nearly 8,300 Iowa veterans

DES MOINES – Progress Iowa, a left-leaning Iowa political organization, released a new video highlighting Senator Joni Ernst’s record on veteran’s health care on Monday, in recognition of Veterans Day.  Progress Iowa says Ernst has repeatedly voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which would mean 8,295 Iowa veterans losing their health care, according to a report released by Families USA.

According to Progress Iowa:

In total, 689,000 veterans would become uninsured by 2026 if Ernst’s votes become the law of the land, according to the report, more than the total number of military personnel currently serving in the U.S. Army and Marine Corps combined. The ACA is also under attack by a lawsuit backed by the Trump administration and a number of Republican Attorneys General, which Ernst has refused to oppose.

“Senator Ernst puts politics ahead of supporting Iowa veterans and they deserve better than that,” said Ben Hanson, an Iraq War Veteran from St. Lucas, Iowa. “Veterans put their lives on the line, the very least Ernst could do is vote to maintain our health care. No one should have to come home after fighting for their country and be faced with a fight for their life because they can’t go to the doctor without going bankrupt. On this Veterans Day we are grateful for the thanks we receive for our service, but we must recommit to working every day to hold politicians like Joni Ernst accountable for forgetting her duty.”

The Texas v. United States lawsuit was brought by a group of Republican state officials to challenge the constitutionality of the ACA. It is currently in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. If the suit prevails, the entire ACA would be repealed, throwing millions of Americans off their insurance, gutting protections for pre-existing conditions, and creating chaos in our health care system.

According to the report, the ACA cut the number of uninsured veterans by more than one-third. Iowa veterans are among the many state communities who will be at risk if the lawsuit or President Trump and Congress wipes out the ACA. Progress Iowa is a multi-issue progressive advocacy organization with a network of more than 75,000 progressives. Year-round, Progress Iowa claims it advocates for a stronger middle class, first-class public education, and fairness for all Iowans under the law.

Thanks to Joni and other conservatives I have free health insurance from my employer because of the Trump tax cuts. Keep up the good work.

GOP moto is take from the poor and give to the rich.

Damn snowflakes

Why are people stupid enough to buy into this crap?

Repeal the Unaffordable Health Care law and they will get them something decent for a lot less money. This is just another bullshit article by the communist organization.

So we have been waiting 3 years for the ACA to be repealed? That is why nothing has been done? Did they vote on it? I seem to remember John McCain putting his thumb down to seal the vote to NO repeal. Rather than sit around waiting for the numbers to change so they would have a YES vote why hasn’t the Trump Administration tried to work with what we have and improve it and make it cheaper? Who are they punishing by not doing anything? We the people. That is the problem in today’s politics – nobody wants to give an inch. That is the problem.

Well that’s about par for our government.
