Four Mason City school board seats up for election on November 5

MASON CITY– The Iowa Association of School Boards and Mason City Community School District urge Iowans passionate about education to consider running in the November 5 school board election. Public schools need strong leadership and governance to ensure a bright future for all children and communities across the state.

Strong leadership is critical to moving education forward in our state. School board members play significant roles in their communities – they must have leadership, vision and dedication. They are charged with accountability for student learning, determining educational goals, setting policy, overseeing school finances and more.

School board members are elected to serve four-year terms, with elections taking place in odd- numbered years. Those elected receive no pay. Experienced school board members say the rewards of service lie in meeting the needs of children and communities.

The Mason City Community School District has four (4) seats up for election on November 5. Nominations for open seats can be filed between August 26 and September 19. See all key dates and deadlines at www.ia-sb.org/getonboard.

Nomination papers for school board seats are available from the board secretary, Cherie Yoder. Located at the Administrative Center Business Office, 1515 South Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City, Iowa, 8 am – 4:30 pm. School board candidates must obtain the signatures of at least 1% of the qualified electors of the district or 50 electors. Questions about the process, please contact Board Secretary Cherie Yoder by email: cyoder@masoncityschools.org.

will the vote go for a pool and new gym so your taxes will go up?? I don’t think so after the tax increase this yr and the one coming next yr just hold onto your shorts. MCSH has been without a pool since 1967 when it opened, why does it need one now. I for one and not voting for a single penny being spent until the over 2 millsion is paid back by those who didn’t have s right to it.

you should have a masters degree and common sense to serve on the board.

Now they want another $19M for a pool etc….

How about making a run Matt? You would have my vote!

*99.99999% of what is wrong with our country on this date. Liberal teachers, professors, “college educated” entitled children.

All subsidized by the Teachers Unions!

As in our district 3 of the four are hand picked /BACKED by the TEACHERS UNION ! Do some research and vote wisely – THIS TIME !

Good post and a terrific reminder to investigate who we vote in. Unions have caused enough trouble and have caused more than enough wasteful expense.

Union strong- you are just mad you are taken advantage of because you are not a union member.

The future will rewrite the past as computerized info will easily be manipulated. Like removing Civil War era statues and such are a form of censorship of history. Silicon Valley in San Francisco is already doing it. So, it not just the way you teach but what you teach. And integrity should be a big part of it!
