National Grocers Association says shutdown having big impact on SNAP (food stamps) and WIC

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Grocers Association (NGA) is saying the lingering shutdown is having a big impact on SNAP (food stamps) and WIC, programs that supply nutrients to low income persons.

The government shutdown has had serious effects on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) otherwise known as food stamps. NGA says 2500 retailers across the country have experienced a lapse in their SNAP licenses, and many other retailers have been unable to acquire SNAP licenses for new or purchased stores. 95% of USDA Food and Nutrition (FNS) staff are currently furloughed, which has made it difficult for grocers to receive assistance with questions and technical difficulties.

Last week, USDA announced a plan to protect SNAP benefits in February. However, for SNAP participants to receive February benefits, USDA is advising all states to request approval to issue SNAP benefits on or before January 20, 2019. This means that some SNAP customers in certain states will receive their February SNAP benefits before their January benefits, depending on the normal distribution schedule employed by the state for the month of January. USDA has not yet announced a plan for distribution of March benefits.

USDA has confirmed that Women, Infants and Children (WIC) will continue to operate through February at the state level. However, at this point in time additional Federal funding will not be provided during the period of the lapse and a prolonged shutdown would deprive WIC agencies of resources.

As we enter the 27th day of

The partial government shutdown is in its 28th day and is the longest in U.S. history. Roughly 800,000 federal workers are not being paid, reportedly, and both Democrats and Republicans refuse to budge on the key issue: President Donald Trump’s request for roughly $5 billion in funds for a border wall.

God damn Trump and the Republican bastards that support him!!! Messing with SNAP and WIC is Satanic!

You damn freeloaders are all alike. Get a job and buy your own food.

At Casey’s last night, guy buys Powerade and Beef Jerky with EBT card. Pays for snuff with cash – something definitely wrong here.

your right there is lot of people that deserve it but then there is also more people who don’t, just want to sit home and not work and draw these freebies. oh almost forgot about sitting home makin babies so that they can get more money for each of them and more wic and snap, they are the ones im talking about, need to change the laws so that #1 drug test before any handouts, #2 at least some kind of work before getting the handouts. years ago I was at a grocery store and a young cpl ahead of me had a cart full of food and a lot of steaks, paid for it all with food stamps and then her with her fancy fringed Harley coat and him with that nice leather Harley beanie reached in their pocket and took out a large roll of $20 bills and paid for their cartons of cigarettes and case of beer, they are the ones that don’t deserve it.

What did we do before ( communist started buying votes by promising crap to users by taking money from the workers ) the government got involved.

SNAP (food stamps) and WIC, programs that supply nutrients to low income persons. Ha, Ha there is a time and place for these handouts and now is not the time or place. Get a job, plenty of them out there

May Karma some day visit your house and bless you with poverty, illness or something beyond your control.

Another heartless one heard from !! Do you realize that the WIC benefits are for women with babies and toddlers ! SNAP is for Folks with serious and persistent physical or mental disabilities, homeless Veterans with PTSD or Substance Abuse issues, poor elderly who have so little Social Security they need help to eat. One individual I know gets $ 730 a month. This is to pay rent, utilities, medicine, groceries , car insurance, gas and upkeep. Do yo get it that the stay at home moms of 50′- thru the 70’s are who I refer to. They dont have a SS record, due to being home with the children. So they get a small portion of their husbands after they die. The person I am talking about pays $ 395 in rent, That leaves $’325 for the remainder of all the expenses. and any emergency that may arise. Does anyone on here think things through, before they throw up all over the comment section !?

Keep her legs together, problem solved.
