MASON CITY – Mason City police are seeking clues after an attempted burglary at the Fareway grocery store.

Mason City Chief of Police Jeff Brinkley tells NIT that at 5:23 AM on Thursday, April 26, 2018, officers responded to Fareway on a report of an attempted burglary.  A source tells NIT that an employee arrived and noticed a large  window on the east side of the store had been broken.  A surveillance video revealed two hooded persons kicking in the window. The window is double plated so they didn’t get in, only breaking the outside glass. If they would have made it into the store, there is a sensor that would have set the alarm, according to our source.

Once the damage was done and the culprits fled, shopping carts could be seen propped up in front of the window for protection and safety.

Chief Brinkley says the incident remains under investigation and anyone with information about it is asked to contact Lt. Rich Jensen at the Mason City Police Department, 641-421-3636.

  1. Well it is the end of the month and food stamp money was all used up.

Must have needed some Monster energy drinks, frozen pizzas, and Doritos to cure their munchies from smoking weed and decided to try to break into Fareway at 5:00am in the morning to satisfy their cravings. Hell, grab some cigs and PBR while you’re at it.

Too bad they weren’t up at 5:00am to go to work

    1. I can only hope that he can find out who you are and then sue you for damages if at all possible. What an ignorant comment.
