Opinion: Bookmeyer and NIT did right thing; vote for Marquardt

After the rejection of this broke Gatehouse MC, LLC as the so called developer for this new downtown hotel, we owe a thank you to Mayor Bookmeyer and three Council for their attention to details, actual performance vs fake claims and putting the best interest of the city first. Plus the end of giving city money ($150,000.) to Gatehouse who provided little or none of their own money for this hotel project up front costs. Their fight to rid the city of Gatehouse and switch to G8 caused this eventual 5-0 Council vote to do so.

Plus a thank you to NIT for factual reporting on this Gatehouse mess and to Kevin Jacobson for his fine work toward getting this project turned around. Hopefully this Chodur/G8 party can deliver the private millions ($10M ++) necessary for this hotel project to become fully funded and qualify the pending MC application before this IEDA Board for the $7.1M of state tax assistance for these Renaissance projects.

Finally, a vote for Matt Marquardt who will bring strong, transparent public service to Council after this Dec. 5th special election in Ward Four.

Pat McGarvey, Mason City Ward 4

  1. Did we at least get the feasibility study as promised from Gatehouse? The least they can do for our $150k plus.

  2. Still a bundle of tax payer money could be thrown down the drain as in the mall deal. Let’s hope not but – but – but.

  3. I completely agree with you on Marquardt. He is just what is needed on the council to keep Adams and Lee on a shot leash.
