Convicted arsonist who killed dog caught with meth

MASON CITY – A Mason City man who was once convicted of burning a house down and throwing a dog into the flames was caught with meth this week.

Cerro Gordo deputies arrested Bachig Cornelius, age 28 of Mason City, after 11 PM on Wednesday, June 7 at 1180 15th Street SW. Cornelius was charged with second-offense possession of methamphetamine, an aggravated misdemeanor. He taken to the county jail and quickly released, pending a hearing on June 23.

Cornelius was charged with a slew of crimes back on June 17, 2012, when he lit a North End house on fire as he committed a domestic assault and even threw a dog into the fire, causing it to perish. He was later guilty of felony arson, domestic abuse, animal torture, and more.
