EDEN PRAIRIE, MN – The Minnesota Vikings announced today the team will not exercise the 2017 option on RB Adrian Peterson’s contract. Peterson will become an unrestricted free agent on Thursday, March 9.
“Adrian is an important part of the Minnesota Vikings organization,” said Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman. “We will continue to have conversations with his representatives and leave our future options open while determining what is best for both parties moving forward.”
Peterson, 32, has played 10 years in the league. The former MVP would have been owed $17.75 million in 2017, CBS Sports reports.
If Petersen agrees to restructure his contract, there is a possibility he could re-sign with the Vikings.
Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata are veteran running backs on the roster. The Vikings may elect to draft a running back this year.
Herchel Walker was a dud also and they traded 5 good players for that phony.

AP is just costing too much at this point and he has not been productive at all, as of late and he has a real tendency to lose the ball. The season he lost because of the abuse of his son cost him and cost the team. He has not been the same since, and latest injury did not help.Time for the Vikes to move of and use the money to get a young, hungry RB with a future and build their offensive line. Go Vikes!

He had tremendous athletic ability and was destined for a great NFL career. Injuries and questions surrounding his personal conduct were his demise. What a shame and a waste, wish him well.
