
DES MOINES – Data shows that distracted driving killed or maimed more people in Iowa in 2015 than in 2014.
The Iowa Department of Transportation released crash history data showing that due to drivers being distracted by the use of phones or other devices, there were 14 total fatalities in Iowa in 2015. This is double the number of 7 fatalities in Iowa in 2014.
Injuries skyrocketed as well from 2014 to 2015. There were 601 total injuries due to distracted driving in Iowa in 2015. This is by far the highest number recorded in Iowa; the previous high number of 383 was in 2009. There were 331 injuries in 2014.
